About INDIEBURN.COM
INDIEBURN.COM began as most things do... as an idea. An idea from Brian Colton to create an
online community for unsigned musicians to sell their music (albums, EP's, etc.) as digital downloads.
The idea came about in 2003, but due to a number of factors, INDIEBURN.COM LLC wasn't actually
created until June of 2004.
Sometimes things happen in the strangest ways...
BRIAN COLTON ::: General Manager
Brian Colton's career in the music industry began in 1991. As a freshman at Nassau Community College, Brian was looking for something to occupy his time, as most of his friends were off at four-year colleges. One day between classes, Brian was reading the school paper and noticed an article about the school radio station WHPC … and the rest as they say is history.
What followed for Brian was a college career taking him to two college radio stations and four commercial radio stations for work and internships. From promotions to on-air, Brian tried out every department he could, to figure out where he fit. "While I loved the music aspect, I never really felt like I found a department where I truly felt comfortable." explains Brian. "It wasn't until I answered that ad, that I truly realized where I wanted to be."
That ad, was an ad in the University at Albany school paper, for a College Marketing Rep position with Sony Music Distribution. Brian got the job, and then over the course of eight plus years, held another two full-time positions with the company.
"While I was never a musician, mostly due to my short fat fingers and lack of front-man charisma, I always respected musicians. Music has always been a huge part of my life. I met my wife, Missy, at a record store when I worked for Sony. My dog, Mookie, is named for a Pearl Jam (also New York Mets) reference. I can tell you that the moment I fell for my wife was at an Indigo Girls show, and the moment I found out about my grandfather's death was backstage working at an Offspring/Cypress Hill show. Music is not just a part of my memory. It's a part of me."
During his career in the music industry, Brian has worked locally, with artists from Incubus and John Mayer to Tenacious D and Mudvayne (with a whole bunch in-between). Brian has also worked as an advisor, manager and promoter for a number of unsigned artists.
"I've seen both sides of the industry, and I believe there is more talent NOT being heard, then truly heard by the general public. INDIEBURN.COM will hopefully be THE outlet for music fans to discover all the talent that is out there."
